Please hold it for me....

The hubby and I were driving to a wedding when I had him STOP because I saw some homeowners pulling stuff out of their garage and putting this sweet vanity/dresser out in the front lawn. We had to hurry because we needed to get to the wedding and I HAD to be there on time because I was one of the bridesmaids.  If you know me I am always LATE...its inevitable (something a garage sale or thrift store always comes up or its just my horrible  time management skills)!  Anyways back to the cute little vanity.  We got it for $15.  But we only had $10 so we asked them if they could please hold it for us until after the wedding when we could get the other $5, pay them in full and haul it away.  They were more than willing.  After 2+ hrs we finally went to pick it up and they told us that a lot of people had offered them a lot more than what we had paid for it.  I was so glad it was mine!!!  As the hubby put it in the car I knew that a paint job and some TLC would transform her.

Here she is....isn't she sweet????

I'm sure she had seen better days. Who knows how old she is but she had a lot of wrinkles, sleepless nights, and no one taking care of her.

I love her legs...good curves and look at those cute little wheels....

So I got to work. I did a little sanding with 80 grit, then 120 grit and finished it off with 150 grit.  I didn't have to do any patching because she was in good condition.  I then primed it with oil based primer.  Oil primer can be messy but I feel that it works great on older furniture, or on furniture in general.  But you can use regular water based primer, I just prefer oil based. I did remove the mirror and hardware.  I spray painted the hardware with Rustoleum Black-semi gloss (they don't carry satin which is my preference).

I then painted her this perfect robins egg blue color. It really is a great color! I did two coats. After allowing it to dry I grabbed my sandpaper and gave her a little distressing. I know you can't see it well in the pictures but I did age her again...
I then finished her off with a coat of Deft Clear Wood Finish.  This stuff is the best and its better than Polyurethane.  I purchased it at Lowe's for around $11.00

Here she is, ready to serve her purpose in our dining room. I used to have an actual buffet table here but it was to big for the space. You see our front room serves as the living room/dining room. So to have big furniture is tough. I ended up putting her here and she fits just right.

There she is.........
